Stanford Design Principles
Our class uses the Stanford Design Principles to help guide us through our project. There are five phases: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test.
Empathize
During the first phase of this project, we went into the community and interviewed local business owners, home owners, and consumers to understand the needs of people. We wanted to do this first so we wouldn't design a project the people didn't feel they wanted or needed. A common theme in these interviews was job creation within the community.

Define
Maritza Maksimow from the Community Development Corporation, originally reached out to our teachers with her plan to incorporate us in the corps idea to create a market place called Fair@44. The idea behind Fair@44 is to have a marketplace for local vendors, who don't have the money to open up a store, to be able to sell their items once a week. The corps also aims to bring the different sub-communities together as well. Our role in their vision will be helping build and install benches, installing light bulbs, and painting murals.

Ideate
In this phase we generated ideas within our group and with our consultant. We are generating these ideas based on of the information we received and compiled in the define phase because we want to design something that will impact the community in the best way possible.
We have thought of making a photo booth, mural and tiles that the people at the fair could paint, and a Snapchat geo filter. We also thought of creating a website that we could update and maintain with the fair's upcoming events for Maritza. |
